KRA pin is nowadays required by many institutions for anyone above 18 years. So it’s important to have one. Below we shall look at how to get a New KRA PIN for the first timer on iTax

1. Open the KRA portal/website: http://www.kra.go.ke/index.php/kra-portal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Click on  Apply for your PIN

2. Select the icon named iTax and the illustrated window below will open. Next to the New PIN registration there is a place written: To get a new PIN click here. Click on the link

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Select the tax payer type i.e individuals (human being- students, employee, entrepreneurs) or non-Individuals (businesses, NGOs, companies or others)

4. Select the mode of registration i.e. online form (this is where you fill the information on the platform provided online) or upload (this is when you upload the information required if it’s already saved in an accessible place and format.)

. When you choose the online form as your preferred mode of registration the following step will have to be filled

Fill the Basic information as required and then click next to fill obligation details. After filling this section fill the source income details and agent details then proceed and submit

NB: Be careful when filling the obligation details to avoid registering for taxes that you don’t qualify to pay. Re-check all the information filled in every section to ensure it is correct. After submitting the information some may be easily edited but others like an email addresses to be used and tax obligations can only be changed by visiting KRA iTax customer service desk. The email provided is where your PIN will be emailed for printing so ensure it’s correct.

6. After submitting the above a copy of the PIN will be emailed to your email together with the password. Use the given password to login to your iTax page and change the password. The newly created password will be used in any subsequent login to iTax hence ensure to memorize it to avoid any inconveniences.

How to Register your Existing KRA PIN on iTax

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has automated most of its functions and it is even mandatory to file online annual returns for all those with PIN. Previously KRA was using Integrated Tax Management System (ITMS). All PIN issued under the old system must be updated to the new iTax. Currently all new PIN must be applied on iTax. See also How to get a New KRA PIN for the first time on iTax. The following steps will help you update/register your PIN on iTax.

1. Open the KRA portal/website: http://www.kra.go.ke/index.php/kra-portal

2. Select the icon named iTax

3. Enter your PIN number and click continue

4. Since you are not registered on iTax you will get a request to do so as indicated below. To update click on the link: Click here

5. After clicking the link: Click Here, a page will open where you will select taxpayer type and citizenship. If you had put the PIN the system will automatically select if you are an individual or non-individual (for company, NGOs, and others) as shown below

The page for individual registration you will need to select the citizen ship and fill in all the mandatory fields then submit.

 

The page for non-individuals i.e. companies, NGOs and others you will need to fill in the business registration certificate number.

 

6. After submitting the above information the indicated page below will open. Note since you are only updating your PIN on iTax some information will have already been transferred from the old system ITMS, so you will only need to fill the blank gaps Ensure to fill in all the required information in the Basic information section, Obligation details, source income details and agent details if you have any one dealing with your tax matters such as Auditor. Before clicking on the next button ensure to interim save all the information filled in. Before submitting confirm the issued email address is correct because that where your updated PIN Certificate will be emailed.

 

7. The last step is creating your iTax password. Login to the email address provided on iTax. Use that password to login to your iTax page and change the password. See also How to login to your iTax page for the first time
